The aim of this site is to educate others about The Earth Charter and its possibilities of educating our students towards a suitable future. About The Earth Charter
The Earth Charter is international declaration of values and principles for building a sustainable future, which is concerned with our ways of living and sustainable human development. The charter seeks to inspire a ‘global interdependence and shared responsibility for the well-being of the human family, the greater community of life, and future generations’(Earth Charter, 2015).
The Earth Charter consists of four principles which they strongly endorse. These four principles include respect and care for the community of life, ecological integrity, social and economic justice and democracy and nonviolence, and peace(Earth Charter, 2015). these principles are addressed in more detail under tabs in The Earth Charter part of this website
This charter has a major role in our education system and it has therefore created the Earth Charter Center for Education for Sustainable Development at the University for Peace in Costa Rica (Centre, 2015). This center promotes the use of the earth charter in schools, colleges, universities and programs (Centre, 2015). It aims to deepen students understanding of sustainability and build on knowledge, skills, attitudes and values they need to create a sustainable future (Earth Charter, 2015).
